Let’s Talk Blogging!

I promised you I would be back once I got caught up on “real life” right? So here we are with a random afternoon post from yours truly! Prepare for some random thoughts…

Since I have not been sharing my food, partly because I feel I am overly repetitive lately with eating… here is my lunch that was surprisingly satisfying. (Yes, seriously…..another egg and jelly sandwich).

I know the real reason guys always come here is for my amazing pictures of food, on my foil and napkin plates at my desk, haha. I wish my egg sandwiches would fit in my bento box. I tried, and it was a mess.

But on my way back to work from lunch, I couldnt help but admire the nice scenery and fall colors. I am still not used to that! (We will pretend I pulled over to take this picture, rather than while I was driving/moving).

My friend sent me this picture from Alaska on his way to work the other morning:

He is obviously as safe as me and takes pictures while driving as well. But yes that is icy roads after the first snow. I cant say I miss that part.


So, most of you are blog writers yourself (besides my friends Melissa and Kayla… hi guys) so you have probably been around a little while and read a plethora (word of the day) of other blogs like myself. I figured I would share more about my recent love for blogs (and blogging myself!) and all that fun stuff. The short synopsis of my blog is here.

I started following blogs only about a year ago. The first ever blog I really discovered was Keeping Up With Katie. I found her actually through a Yahoo! link for “notable” bloggers. I was intrigued and actually by sheer coincidence my interest sparked even more once I learned she was in North Carolina because at the time, we had just decided to move here. So I fell in love with her pictures and stories about my soon-to-be home, along with her personal journey and stories.

From there I discovered that there was a huge world of blogs out there (who knew?) and realized I truly loved reading them – particularly the “healthy living genre.” I think I have always been attracted to that genre because it really is interesting to me. I ended up finding tons of other blogs I fell in love with and was almost overwhelmed with ones I read on a daily basis, it was like I met a bunch of new “friends” and was meeting and learning about all of them.

I fell in love with Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers, Courtney at Sweet Tooth Sweet Life, Janae at Hungry Runner Girl, and tons more (hi Dawn, GWWF, Mallory, Sarah, Shayla, Bess, and Brittany! There are tons more of you I love, please dont feel left out!

My favorite part of reading blogs? I love getting a glimpse into the bloggers life because it makes me feel like I truly know them, and I also try to maintain that feel on my own blog (maybe too much, I tend to get way off subject sometimes…) Other than entertainment purposes, I also learn a lot about fitness, new exercise moves, new gear, recipes (tons of recipes), motivation, support, and inspiration. One of my favorite parts definitely has to be the recipes – really, I love you all but mostly I just want your food.

Types of blogs I am attracted to? I have realized that any I read are in the general healthy living category, but I tend to fall for the ones that are regularly updated (at least 2-3 times per week), ones that flow nicely and are somewhat organized (mine may not fall into this category haha but I am working on it!), or those I can identify with somehow. I think it goes back to that personal feeling.

My favorite part of writing a blog? I dont know honestly. It just sort of happened. My blog is new (started Aug 2011) so I am still learning the ropes, but I really love it. I like entertaining other people, and I figure if you are here, you are somewhat interested right? I know a lot of people get into blogging because they love writing, etc. Which I do, but I enjoy the social part of it and sharing. I have always been an open person so why not share everything with everyone in the world on the Internet (KIDDING, well obviously it is semi-true because here I am). That is not really the reason though – I started out because I wanted a hobby and I absolutely adore food – cooking it, eating it, looking at it, etc. The fitness thing is coming along… blogging also holds me semi accountable and maybe one day I will run a marathon (highly unlikely).

I feel a lot of people dont really understand blogging to be honest with you, and I was definitely one of those people before I started reading some of them daily. But I also think it was partly because I had never really came across any I was truly interested in.

There you have it, my random thoughts on the subject in a nutshell and I figured I would share and curious on your input about the blogging world as well!

  1. I started my blog to help me on my weight loss journey. It was actually very moving because I had opened up an account back when I was 16, 4 years ago, and had started one post, and got to saw it when I reopened my account to start this blog. The post, it was so sad, so vulnerable. I was saying how much I hated my body and how much I wanted to change myself, how unaccepted I felt. Simply seeing this kicked me and thanks to it I have lost 7 pounds already and it’s going great. Blogging is amazing! I really enjoyed your post: I am the same as you when I read other blogs and I have to admit I read your whole blog from start to finish and it’s awesome

      What a great story though, it’s weird how finding stuff like that from the past can be kind of sad yet helpful isn’t it?

  2. I love reading blogs for pretty much the some of the same reasons you do. I use them to get new food and recipe ideas, new workout ideas, and to feel like I have made some new “friends”.
    I also am quite new to blogging as well. I began my blog in August, but then moved to my new domain in September. I started as a way to keep myself accountable with my food, exercise, and weight loss journey.
    Carrots N Cake and Kath Eats Real Food were really the first blogs I read after reading the Carrots N Cake book. I have ventured out to find so many more (including yours!) through comments and links within their posts. I just love it!

    The first food/healthy living blog I ever ready was “Eat Like Me” on, I think that was the true first food blog ever. From there in the comments section I came across Kath’s at Kath Eats Real Food and then from there I found Tina’s at Carrotsncake, and then continued on to find all the other big bloggers and many other wonderful ladies such as yourself!

    I love reading blogs because I love learning so much from other women and the struggles they may go through, which is very inspiring and keeps me on the healthy living train…it also healped me overcome my disordered eating struggles and I hope to help others in expressing what I’ve gone through and how I continue to overcome them daily. And the support of this community is so amazing and I’m so happy to be a part of it 🙂

    Aw, thanks for the shout out, Andrea! I personally enjoy reading blogs for much of the same reasons– I feel like I start to KNOW the person behind the words (and I mean that in the least creepiest way possible haha).

    The first blog I discovered was Gina @ The Fitnessista, and that was nearly 3 years ago. I was an avid reader for 2 solid years before I finally got up the nerves to start one of my own. I love reading yours– I feel like you’re very honest & upfront, just what I like to read. 😀

    Great post, by the way. It really got me thinking!

    • Yeah I like to reminisce back to the good ol days of blog discovery 😉 kidding though it is kind of true! And I love Gina’s blog!!
      And I love being honest, it is part of who I am and I think that is important to portray on the bloggy since it is part of my personality.
      And I love your blog and honestly I find it to be one of my favorite “special diet” blogs simply because when I read it I dont feel like it is your absolute main focus and your recipes are still something I can relate to and feel like I would them!! I find special diets (gluten free, vegan, etc) fascinating but as I have expressed I dont feel I could follow one, and a lot of times when I am reading other blogs that focus on that I feel like they go way over my head just because I am not familiar with it (not to say I dont like to read and learn about it though!) but I feel like yours is very relatable and I love it! And of course I love popcorn too 🙂

  6. Aw, you are so sweet =) My favourite part of reading blogs is “getting to know” people who I share things in common with! Seriously, I had no idea people actually liked the things that I like to eat. This is an amazing community.
    I started blogging in April of this year, and it was just because I love to write, I love to eat healthy, and I love to communicate with other people! I think reading PBF was the catalyst for my blog though haha.
