I Love Random Day

I am feeling top-notch today, hallelujah!

For that, I had another celebratory PB banana sandwich, I know – I am just so wild.

This weekend I plan on getting the rest of my Christmas shopping wrapped up, which all that really consists of is stocking stuffers for Torrance. Stockings are one of my favorite parts of Christmas! I think it has something to do with my mom always doing awesome ones for me when I was younger!

It is so much harder doing stocking stuffers for guys though than it is girls. Girls you can get makeup, jewelry, nail polish, etc. Guys always require more creativity in the stocking department. I have some ideas, which I wont share just incase Torrance is feeling nosey on the blog 😉 (nice try!)

I think it is also a perfect time to get baking on some Christmas cookies as well…

Also some place in between all the Christmas festivities, I need to get a good workout in! I plan to head down to the apartment gym at some point! I already feel like after a week with no physical activity my training will be extra rough next week when I go back.

My usual Friday random time!

Random #1: All I want for Christmas….

Yes, you are seeing that correctly. Please and thanks.

Random #2: Dollar stores
I’ve never really been to dollar stores. We had them in Alaska, but anything in Alaska that was a “good deal” was always more. For example, the McDonald’s dollar menu was $1.50, and Subways notorious ♫5 dollar foot loooong♫ was really $6-7 instead. So I guess I figured a dollar store was filled with lots of lame stuff for $2.

Well, after my sister telling me how she struck gold with Xmas decor at the dollar store, I was semi intrigued. There is a dollar store right next to my usual grocery so I wandered in there this weekend to check it out. I was actually amazed. I am a sucker for any type of deal so when they had COOL stuff for a dollar I was amazed (I’m easily amused).

A 6-piece set of Christmas cookie cutters for $1. Yes please.

Random #3: My favorite books
Okay it is now out in the open that I am a Twilight nerd (PS I still havent seen Breaking Dawn…wah!) but those are not my favorite books, or favorite type of book even. I stopped reading for a while and will admit that the Twilight series did rekindle my love for a good book though.

I like to read nonfiction type stuff. And enjoy biographies (and autobiography) style books about people’s real experiences. I like a good serious read every once in a while (think Hunger Games, American Wife, etc) but it can be hard for me to always read heavy material like that.

And of course, I always love funny. While searching for some lighter stuff after finishing the Twiligh series a few years back, I discovered my absolutely new favorite author. Jen Lancaster. She is 100% hilarious, snarky, snooty, paranoid, and awesome. She writes memoir style books about her real experiences, and if you read her “first” book you will fall in love with her!

Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered, Smartass, or Why You Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office

This is the story of how a haughty former sorority gal went from having a household income of almost a quarter-million dollars to being evicted from a ghetto apartment in less than two years.  It’s a modern Greek tragedy, as defined by Roger Dunkle in The Classical Origins of Western Culture: a story in which “the central character, called a tragic protagonist or hero, suffers some serious misfortune which is not accidental and therefore meaningless, but is significant in that the misfortune is logically connected.”

In other words?

The bitch had it coming.”

This one is her first book of her now six, and explains her “downfall” and her new relationship with reality that led her to new experiences and writing her blog and how she came about writing books. Her following books all touch on different subjects in her life (“Such A Pretty Fat” is her quest to lose weight in all the most hilarious ways possible). I seriously recommend checking her out! And a fair warning, she drops quite a few F bombs 🙂 Which makes me love her more, I will admit haha.

Currently, I am reading her book “Bright Lights, Big Ass: a self-indulgent, surly ex-sorority girl’s guide to why it often sucks in the city, or, Who are these idiots and why do they all live next door to me?”

Besides her, I also adore Chelsea Handler’s books! Can you tell what kind of humor I have or what?!

Random #4: Delicious!
When I was home sick on Monday, I went out to get some more medicine and while I was at the store I picked up some other sicky necessities like soup, cough drops and figured it would be a good excuse to eat ice cream (good for my throat ya know?) so I picked up some of this:

It is amazing and creamy, extra good with some sliced bananas!

Random #5: Music galore
As a gift for my dad, I told him I would load up an iPod for him since he doesnt have one. They play music all night through a stereo in the bar at the resort and he said he is sick of his music so I had him send me a list of some specific stuff he wanted.

He is a child of the 60’s and listens to a lot of old rock (Led, Rolling Stones, Grand Funk Railroad, etc) which is stuff I love too since it is what I grew up listening to. He also asked for some island music and Reggae (since it is a Caribbean resort so he has to keep a certain feel!) so I stocked him up good! With all of that said and done I officially have over 2,000 songs on iTunes now and feel like I am loaded up for a while!

  • Do you have a favorite author?
  • Do you like to do stockings for Christmas?
  • Do you download a ton of music on iTunes (or a different music player)?
