Salad Yum & Couch to 5k

Is everyone cramming in the last of their holiday shopping today?! I most likely will be tomorrow. Why not put it off another day? 🙂

Last night ended up being a nice relaxing night. I actually went to training last night, which I never do on Fridays. But since I was unable to make it Thursday night because of the incident, I wanted to be sure to get 3 days in.

We had an awesome workout as always! For a Friday night, there were more people (6 of us) than I expected. We did 12 stations last night and did 2 rounds of 30 seconds at each station, and then took a minute break and then another 2 rounds of 30 seconds at each.

I left as a sweaty mess.

When I got home, Torrance had already eaten so I whipped up a quick salad.

In the mix was:

  • Romaine
  • corn
  • mozzarella cheese
  • cucumber
  • tomato
  • shrimp
  • balsamic vinaigrette

On the side are some pita chips and humus! Mmm.

Since I had somewhat of a lighter dinner (for me, I consider a salad light, even if it’s huge) I had some frozen yogurt with some cinnamon sprinkled in.

I dont really have a ton to do this weekend, which is a nice feeling. Just the typical “around the house” stuff – and like I mentioned, I will probably do some more Christmas cookies, just because!

Since my goals include incorporating some more cardio/running, I am going to get a run in this afternoon. I have to be honest, I have never really been a great runner but it is something I definitely want to improve on, so I am going to have to work toward it again. It seems like I’ve been having a hard time getting back into it.

I dont love running, but I do enjoy it and how I feel after doing it, and am convinced that if I can stick with it for  while my love will grow. I am really going to try to get my endurance up. I find that since I havent run much at all for a while, I am having a hard time running consistently and I end up walking a lot more.

I decided that to help me out with this, I am going to do the classic “Couch to 5k” program to get me back into it.

May as well give it a shot – I feel like if I have a guide to follow I will stick with it, rather than just being all over the board.

  • How did you get into running? Did you just step out and start doing it one day, or did you follow a program? Do it with a friend? etc.
  • Do you love running? Hate it? Or just kinda like it/do it for the health benefits?
  • Running outside or on a treadmill?
    I like either, seems like I do better on a treadmill, I know it’s not the same.

  1. I’m really enjoying the structure of the C25K program. I’ve never been someone who likes to run, but for whatever reason, something clicked, and I just started doing this. I’m about to start the 6th week (I think – maybe 5th) & just did my first 20-minute jog. Since I’m kind of a Goldilocks when it comes to exercise (not too hot, not too cold), I’ve been running on the indoor track at my gym. Once summer comes to Texas, as it did for a couple of days earlier this week, inside is the only way to go. I’m curious as to how I’ll handle doing actual 5K races outside, and suspect I’ll wimp out if the weather is bad (bad = hot/humid).

    I just read about your incident. I dinged a car once, the tiniest scratch you can imagine, and left a note. My car, meanwhile, has been hit 3 or 4 times in parking lots, and not once has anyone left a note. I’m waiting for that car-ma to come back around to get those people. 🙂

    • Yeah weather is another factor! I will have to experiment with that, I already know I’m a wuss when it’s really hot so maybe this mild winter we’ve been having would be a good time for me to get used to running outside!

  2. I love to run, run, run!! I ran 12 miles this morning. 🙂 I started kind of slowly as I began hitting the gym. It was just gradual falling in love! 🙂

  3. I started with C25K, too. And I use the Bluefin iPhone app which is great! I’ve realized that I prefer the treadmill. It really makes me not feel like a real runner, but I kinda don’t even care anymore.
