Time To Raid My Kitchen! The Grocery Edition
I woke up around 8 again this morning and made this killer breakfast:
And this certain brown dog wanted in on it….
Geesh, beggar – she just loves turkey sausage!
Yesterday I am happy to say I actually took a little break from technology – well my computer at least!
We headed out to Torrance’s uncle’s in the afternoon to do some stuff around there and also for my walking date with his aunt. It was the perfect day for it too – sunny and about 60 degrees! We ended up walking about four miles in the late afternoon.
When we got home, we agreed it would be a lazy do nothing type night. Except I had the weird urge to go grocery shopping and get my list out of the way.
Yes, at 8:00 on a Saturday night I headed off to restock our kitchen.
Whenever I do strange things like this it always prompts me to text my BFF for reassurance that I’m not too weird.
And yes, there were people there – not nearly like during the day, but I was surprised to see other’s doing their shopping too.
The pros of going grocery shopping at night? Everything is neat, orderly, and freshly restocked! And you don’t have to push through people, fight over things, and no lines.
The cons? The meat/seafood counter is closed so I will have to go back to get my fish, etc.
So, some of my favorite posts to read on other blogs are grocery shopping/food staple posts! I love seeing what other people have/keep and I always get ideas from them.
So, without further ado, I invite you into my freezer, fridge, and pantry!
- frozen veggies – broccoli, snow peas, green beans, mixes, etc
- single serving frozen veggies – that I use for lunch or solo dinners
- frozen fruit – strawberries, other berries, and pineapple
- frozen (raw w/ shell) shrimp – they are quick to thaw out and keep better unless I know I will use them all
- other frozen meats like ground beef or chicken breast – since I shop weekly I don’t typically keep a lot of meet in my freezer – usually it ends up in there if I know I wont get to use it before it will go bad, or it was a really good sale and I bought extra.
- frozen yogurt – I prefer the “Edy’s” brand, perfect for when I want something sweet
- Alexa potatoes – sweet potato bites, potato mushroom mixes, sweet potato fries, they always make a good side item!
- Torrace’s stuff – that top shelf is pretty much his as you can see, he likes the Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls to heat up and eat them on his way out the door, and also the TGI Friday’s appetizers that he can throw in the oven real quick (potato skins, wings, etc), and frozen burritos. He doesn’t really ever cook anything on his own, so he’s a typical go-to frozen stuff type guy. I told you we eat completely differently!
- head of romaine lettuce – I mix this into salads or use it for sandwiches
- spinach/mixed greens – for salads
- cremini mushrooms – I usually buy them already sliced
- green pepper
- head of cauliflower
- cherry tomatoes (snack!)
- onion – typically for cooking with/in things
- ground beef – I have been getting the natural, grass, feed version for most of my beef products now
- chicken breasts – also getting the natural version from a local farm
- Aidells Natural Chicken Sausage
- Hormel brand natural thin sliced turkey – for sandwiche
- shrimp – I typically buy these frozen now
- turkey sausage links – for breakfast on the weekends!
- other seafood – sometimes depending on what meals I will have for the week I include fresh fish or scallops
- other beef – again depending on what meals I have planned, I may pick up a roast, or steaks
- whole grain angel hair pasta
- rice noodles – for stirfry
- protein powder
- cereal – currently there is Raisin Bran Crunch (my fav!) and Frosted Mini Wheats (Torrance’s fav)
- brown rice
- canned beans – kidney beans, black beans, and baked beans (for Torrance)
- Cous Cous – usually the Near East boxed type
- nut butter – almond and Nutella
- canned veggies – mostly just corn or green beans (I weirdly like canned green beans!)
- canned soups – chicken noodle, tomato, veggie
- single wrapped sweet potatoes or regular potatoes – easy baked potatoes!)
- Stacy’s pita chips
- Garden Salsa Sunchips (Torrance)
- Wheat thins
- plain oats and/or granola – for baking
- FiberOne pancake mix
- baby red potatoes
- organic nonfat milk – neither of us drink milk so this if for cooking, cereal, or smoothies
- string cheese
- shredded cheddar cheese
- sliced cheese – usually mozzarella, cheddar, or provolone
- fresh mozzarella
- plain Chobani – I use this for baking and in place of sour cream
- olive oil margarine
- plain unsalted butter – for baking
- Cinnabon coffee creamer
- Wheat sandwich thins
- loaf of multi grain sliced bread
- Thomas multi grain english muffins
- fresh organic garlic bread from the bakery – I love this and buy it occasionally, it has whole chunks of garlic in it and is nice and chewy
- Xtreme Wellness tortillas – and regular flour tortillas for Torrance
- Newman’s Own Balsamic Viniagrette
- Olive oil (EVOO)
- honey mustard
- light miracle whip (yep, not a mayonnaise person!)
- Smucker’s strawberry preserves/jam
- Worcestershire sauce
- jar of minced garlic
- soy sauce
- bottled marinades – teriyaki, lemon garlic, etc
- apple sauce
- orange juice – Simply Orange or Florida’s Natural brands, whichever is on sale!
- cranberry juice – mostly for mixed drinks 😉
- soda – for Torrance, usually Dr. Pepper or Pepsi
- bottled water – that’s the big empty spot in the bottom of the fridge right now!
- wine – I usually have 4 or 5 kinds on hand
- beer – various kids depending on what
- vodka – Absolute
And there you have a it! What I keep in my kitchen – my baking stuff has it’s own home in a different cupboard, but that is a whole ‘nother beast!
