It is officially birthday eve for me. My birthday feels so different this year, I think just because I am away from my friends. Typically I am like Courtney and celebrate my birthday WEEK but this year just has a lot more mellow vibe – which I am okay with! But hey, it is supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow – which will be a first for me for my birthday…typically it is spent indoors due to below zero temps this time of year.
It is crazy how many birthdays are being celebrated in the blogging community in these few weeks…Courtney, Alyssa, Brittany, Lauren (bday twin!), Janae’s is coming up…plus more. Weird…. I wonder if there is some sort of connection with Aquarius’ and blogging? 😉
Anyway, training last night was a good one. We were paired up at stations and I had an awesome partner – a lady that always has a really good energy. We did seal jacks (which always makes me feel like MC Hammer), squats, a weird basketball free-throw move (I dont even know how to explain it), a bunch of others, and I think my favorite were the kneeling dumbbell curls that looked somewhat like this:
The only difference was we brought our hands up even further, so they basically touched our shoulders, making our triceps parallel with the floor.
Oh wait, we also did this marvelous move. It was hard. Holding this position for the entirety of the time at the station (which for 2 rounds we did 1 minute)….
It was hard but my abs are are feeling it today. Im not sure if they thanking me or crying though.
After that sweaty disaster, it was dinner time! I made a really quick one – some steamed sugar snap peas, sautéed mushrooms, and shrimp over cous cous (and a little cheese sprinkled on top!)
And since I was feeling ambitious (okay, and Torrance whined there was no chocolate in the house) I made him some chocolate chip muffins.
Ok I successfully ordered my shoes yesterday and they are on their way. A small note about the Zappo’s site when I logged in to check the status…
…They told me how I have great taste! They are obviously awesome since they acknowledged that I am awesome (ha!)… and I am obviously easily entertained. 😉 Okay, okay, I know they say tell everyone that, but I can pretend I am special for a few. When sites have little things like this or extra perks in their customer service, it always surprises me.
Speaking of which, I have found lately that I am looking at reviews of items online more often. I used to never do this because I just have in my mind that I want something and I’m going to get it and dont really care what other have to say about it (unless it is someone I know typically). And sometimes I still have that mindset, but other times I will check the reviews – especially if there is something specific I am hoping to find out from other consumers.
Like these shoes… I checked (and when I say checked, I mean skimmed quickly) the reviews because I wanted to see what others said about the sizing – which specifically to these were that they found ordering them a half size larger than your usual running/fitness shoes was perfect – so that is what I did.
I have also found myself doing this recently when I ordered some sports bras and a jacket – to check what others had to say about the fit. And I even checked when I bought my vacuum (ok that one is kind of weird.. but I wanted to see if there were any major complaints, before I spent a bunch of money on a vacuum).
The reason I typically ignore reviews is because people usually only review things if they are really, extremely impressed with something; or if they are really, extremely unimpressed. People always like a reason and place to complain about something.
I was thinking about common things (other than household items) that people share their reviews and experiences with:
- Apartment complexes (if you are considering moving into one)
- other services including insurance/plumbing/car repair/etc
A lot of those go back to people who have had a bad experience or have different tastes. I find it very hard to check out reviews on restaurants, movies, and stores because to me that is just something that is different for everyone – though you can still gather some good info about cleanliness, price, etc from a restaurant review for example.
So – I am curious….as a consumer:
- Do you ever turn to reviews for info? What type of items would you look at reviews for?
- Do you ever take the time to write reviews on products or services you have bought/used/tried/etc?
