An UnValentine’s Day & Stinky Fish

Well, even though I don’t really do the whole Valentine’s Day thing, I still felt the love.

Here are some scenes from my UnValentine’s Day.

Yep. Lots of love.

My boss actually brought my coworker and I each a box of truffles. Which was super nice. Those things were delicious. I LOVED the dark chocolate orange and also the white chocolate. As you can see, Torrance and I mowed them down Winking smile And that lovely salad is my Ruby Tuesday salad at lunch – true love right there, haha.

And Torrance showed up after work with one single rose. He just couldn’t resist. I felt semi guilty for not getting anything fun for him!

So of course I figured I would cook a fabulous dinner.

And then shit stinky fish hit the fan.

Not literally, but it certainly didn’t work out. If you are sick of seeing everyone’s fabulous V-day dinners, you came to the right place (only kidding, because who gets sick of seeing food? I certainly do not).

So – the original menu was fish, cous cous, steamed broccoli, and corn (I was weirdly craving corn last night!). As the fish was cooking, I realized something smells sorta funky, so I broke off a little piece to try it out….and it was the worst thing I have ever tasted. Apparently it had gone bad. Ew!

No biggy, the cous cous and broccoli were already done so – I scrapped the bad fish and broke out some chicken breasts, covered it them in Italian dressing, and threw them on my new grill pan (yes I got one over the weekend!)

And then I realized I messed up the cous cous. I halved the recipe and for some reason my measurement was off and I used too much water so it was much to mushy. So, I scrapped that too and threw a big potato in the microwave (speedy baked potato style!) for us to split while the chicken cooked.

So when everything was finally done on round two, everything just tasted sort of off to me. Chicken tasted funky, potato was dry, and the corn even had a weird taste! Maybe that bite of nasty, bad fish messed up my taste buds?

So after taking a few bites of everything, I decided to forget it all and and pour myself a bowl of Raisin Bran and call it a night!…. aaaaaand, it was stale.

Dinner, take four:

Almond butter and jelly sandwich, you never let me down!

Needless to say, my garbage disposal saw a lot of food last night (hate wasting stuff!) and we spent a little time airing out the apartment from the stinky fish. Kind of funny but the night ended well regardless, pretty sure lots of truffles had something to do with it!

Quite honestly, I have been in a cooking lull for the last 2 weeks or so (thus the lack of recipes and good dinner pictures)! I’m not really sure what is going on but I’m thinking I may need to do some recipe planning and get some new recipes to work with and start giving my kitchen a little action again!

Back to training for me tonight! I actually had someone comment yesterday that my arms were looking nice and toned, score!

Have a great day!

  • Did you eat anything special yesterday?
  • Have you been more into strength training or cardio lately? Or a mix of coth?
  • What is your weather like right now?
It is so sunny and currently about 45 degrees here

  1. I want that white chocolate truffle. Your box looks so much better than the one I got. I hope you’re keeping those under lock and key. 🙂

I hate it when dinner doesn’t turn out like you want. I try to watch what I eat so if I get a bad meal, I get so sad. haha. I think I’m having a PB&J for lunch today. But now I wanna get some almond butter.

Haha OH my goodness! I’ve had meals like that too when you just keep trying different things out but nothing seems to be making the cut. A bowl of cereal is never a letdown 8)

  4. Sometimes Almond butter and Jelly can be romantic, right?! I hate kitchen disasters but have had my fair share of them! I am pretty good at accidentally catching fire to the oven. It is my specialty. It is a good thing we went out for dinner!

    • fire?! haha I have never done that, but I would probably freak out if I did. We always had restaurant grade (so huge) propane ovens and stuff growing up since my parents were chefs and my dad managed to blow himself up a few times with the oven.

  5. Aww! It’s the thought that counts so that’s all that really matters! 😉 that’s totally happened to me before, you just gotta go with it and thankfully almond butter & jelly never fails! 🙂 glad y’all could enjoy the yummy truffles-hope it somewhat made up for the fish.
