Songs You Forgot You Had On Your iPod

Ok first things first, I am having something for breakfast that I havent had in forever!

A smoothie!

But not just any smoothie… a banana-coffee smoothie. I used to have these things all the time in the morning.

In the mix:

  • 2 scoop Visalus mix (my “protein powder” of choice)
  • 7 ice cubes
  • a whole (small) frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup coffee (hot or cold, doesnt matter)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk
  • a few dashes of cinnamon

And since it was on the smaller side (as opposed to my giant smoothies) I had some whole grain waffles with strawberry jelly alongside of it.

Which, in all honestly I was really full after all of that, I think one waffle will do next time.

So let me tell you about training last night. The training was great as always… but the music is what got me.

I was cracking up/jamming out. It was like the nostalgic mix that I felt like he handpicked from my childhood. Or like the songs you have on your iPod that you completely forgot about….

First was Tootsee Roll. You remember that song dont ya? If not… listen here. My favorite is at the beginning when they say “yeaaaaah 1994!” ha!

And then some Alice Cooper.

Scary I know. I know this is more of an 80’s thing, but I blame my awesome rocker sisters brainwashing me when I was a baby with this stuff.

And then Genie In A Bottle.

And then… the holy grail of my childhood.

Dont act like you never had any of their songs stuck in your head! Candyman came on last night and I almost died. It was like insta-flashbacks to 5th grade. Awesome.

Oh, and “Tubthumping (I get knocked down)” by Chumbawamba. Yeah, you forgot about that one huh?

I may have also gotten all 12-year-old-girl giddy when Bon Jovi’s “Livin on a Prayer” came on. I always feel the need to yell-sing that song…. when I am by myself of course.

And I may have also went home and put together a playlist on my iPod that included all these songs and called it “Memories”

And yes, I already own all those songs and didn’t even have to download any of them. Sad? Maybe.

Okay, okay sorry, I know I have been reminiscing a lot lately, but it’s kind of fun. Have a good day!

  • Time to fess up: some of your childhood band/song obsessions?
Along with the above I had a weird obsession with Queen. And also I went through a phase where I loved Shaggy.
  • Do you have a favorite genre of music? (rock, pop, etc)
Rock. Especially old/classic rock. I blame my father.
  • What’s for dinner tonight (or what was for dinner if you are reading this later tonight)?

  2. I will now have Barbie Girl stuck in my head all day. I remember taping it on a cassette and playing in my walkman over and over when I was in like 5th grade.

Hmm, I will probably eat something with frozen broccoli (obviously heated up).

  3. Love all of that music!

I just transferred all of the music from my old laptop that I had at the end of high school/beginning of college…so many of the songs gave me chills because of the greast memories that was associated with them!

I was a huge BSB fan, gotta love those dance moves. I really like listening to rap when I run, and then country in the summertime. Guess it’s a mood thing? We are having leftovers for dinner… yummy minestrone soup 🙂

    • Minestrone sounds good actually! I agree with the mood thing, i like rap or stuff with a good beat for working out and country and summer definitely go together!

  6. Oh goodness! The 90’s channel on Pandora makes my life complete! I love hearing all of those old “skating party” songs. I am not ashamed to admit that I own “Barbie Girl” by Aqua…I also have “Da Dip” by Freak Nasty…”Linger” by The Cranberries is a perennial favorite. Clearly I am living in the wrong decade. 🙂

  8. Thank you for reminding me to download Genie In A Bottle!!!
I used to die for Tubthumping, but I already have that one.
I read a quote somewhere once that was something like “I love every song on my iPod, except when it’s on shuffle…then I love 1 in every 15 songs on my iPod” hehe.

Anyway, Hanson. That was my tweenage music crush that I kept a secret from everyone because I was embarrassed.

And rock, hands down. I am with you on old classic rock… and I do love some newer alternative rock as well! I will listen to pretty much anything though.

  9. I love the “blast from the past” music! I remember I had a whole dance to Christina’s “Come On Over” song back in 5th grade. Where has the time gone!? For dinner I had green beans and red peppers sauteed with chicken and a side of pasta with marinara sauce! It was awesome and filling but now I’m munching on peanut m&m’s. my sweet tooth gets me every time!
