Box Step Ups, Scallops, & Sleep Issue

Last night’s training was amazing!

I wish I could have taken pictures of all the moves for you – mostly because they are hard to explain, but also because you would have laughed at some of them because they were super awkward. But I can definitely feel it today!

Some moves we did included: Lateral overhead presses (with 8-12 lb dumbbells), kneeling pull downs with an abdominal twist, tricep dips, walking warrior poses – we did this version, but holding a light bar overhead)


We also did push ups with the TRX straps, bike riding with arms only (not pedaling), bear hugs with the resistance bands, and box step ups – which were a tough one!

Dont mind the awkward circles, I had to protect the innocent since it was a close up. I can feel the box step ups in my quads today that’s for sure!

When I got home I had another night of awesome as far as productivity goes. I cooked dinner right away, which consisted of some broccoli, cous cous, and lemon garlic shrimp and scallops.

I drizzled the scallops with a little oil, lemon juice (from a real lemon), and  and baked in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes and then finished them off by searing them in a hot pan on the stove for a few seconds per side and then topping with a little fresh ground black pepper.


Can we just talk about sleeping for a minute?

Somehow, my sleep schedule has gotten all messed up. I am a hard sleeper and pretty much sleep through the night, so no issues there. And I usually fall asleep quickly, but lately not so much.

My night-time routine usually goes like this:

Get into bed and watch TV (we sleep with TV on, I know they say this is bad but I cannot sleep in silence) and then I usually mess around on the computer or the iPad, catching up on blogs, news, play a game, whatever to sort of wind down.

I eventually put everything away when I feel sleepy and decide to pass out, usually that is between 10 & 11.

But lately, I havent been able to fall asleep until 12:30 or 1! It drives me crazy. Laying there wide awake…. I dont know if it’s because I am too antsy or if my body really isnt tired (which I dont see how it couldnt be).

And it just isnt fair because Torrance and Kona are always passed out on both sides of me.

Kona even passed out so quickly she didnt even make it onto our bed, or really even all the way on hers.

  • What is your nibedtime routine like? When do you usually go to bed/fall asleep?
  • Do you have any sleep issues – either falling asleep, not getting enough sleep, waking up throughout the night, etc?
    I usually dont, but this has been going on for a couple weeks now.

  1. Sounds like a great workout! Those step-ups can be a killer.

    The scallops look great! I also really like the whole oven and pan on the stove combo. They do that a lot on Food Network shows. 🙂

  2. I think I’m going to have to try to make scallops sometime. I love them but have never cooked them myself.

    • Im weirdly not a big fan of them, Torrance likes this so I have them here and there for something different! And they are fairly easy to cook!

  3. I don’t typically have sleep issues, except that I often need to wake up at least once to use the restroom. And I’m usually in bed no later than 10:00. Sleep is just one thing that I’ve been fortunate enough to never have an issue with.

    • I know! Torrance struggles and I have always been so relieved I don’t have issues. Until I got on this weird schedule somehow of course haha

  4. I’m usually out like a light within 5 min of turning off the light, but historically the only time I have had trouble sleeping is if I am worried or stressed about something OR if maybe I took a nap during the day or something. Any other changes in diet or anything? Caffeine later in the evening or anything like that?
    I like scallops but have always been scared to make them. This seems pretty easy though! I might have to take the plunge!

  5. I totally crash when it’s time for bed…but my dog nudges me and licks my face every now and again in the middle of the night, and once he’s woken me up, I can’t fall back asleep! My husband always yells at me to put my computer away before bed. Apparently its glow tricks your mind into thinking it’s daylight. I don’t know if I believe this, but maybe that has something to do with it?

    • Torrance always complains to me about my computer too haha and says the same things. I don’t believe it either though!

  6. Your gym always look so awesome. That box workout looks intense!!!! I’m a little insomniac, and I tend to dream a LOT which I feel really interrupts my quality of sleep because they’re very vivid.
