Salad In A Jar = Genius

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Mine was super lazy thanks to some awesome weather. Rain. Cold. Sideways rain. And some more cold. (Not complaining though because I know a lot of people got hit with storms).

I did manage to get in a little shopping though. I went to Kohl’s to try to find some plain black pumps and ended up leaving with a new dress, a sports bra, workout capris, 3 cute tops, and a pair of work pants. All for $101…that’s like less than $15 per item… I didnt find any shoes though. Imagine that.

Other than my little shopping trip, I think the most active thing I did this weekend was vacuum. Haaaa. Oh well, it happens. I did get some awesome wine drinking time in though.

And some quality time in with this little brown nugget of fur.

Yes this is what happens when she wants food. It was like, 10 minutes after her usual dinner time and I hadn’t fed her yet. She’s so dramatic.

So something I am sort of excited about – Mason Jar salads!

I have been wanting to try them, but honestly the reason I hadn’t is because I couldn’t find any damn mason jars. But, while I was out and about this weekend I found a few and all is well in the world again.

Naturally, I have seen this idea all over Pinterest for a while now – and its pretty genius I must say. I love salads at lunch but they arent necessarily the most time efficient things to throw together at lunchtime….and they don’t exactly stay delicious if you make them ahead of time. Thus… the mason jar.

And there is a technique to it so I am told. And I found this handy dandy little outline on Pinterest to help me out.

(Unfortunately I am not sure the exact source of that to credit the right person – hate that!)

I picked up this chicken to try for the salads too – it’s actually pretty good and definitely would be good on a sandwich!

And I got to work on the rest of my salad goodies….

As well as the above cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, egg, and cheese – I included corn, and romaine and spinach of course!

A “Cobb Salad” if you must.

I packed it all together and loaded it in the jars.

I figured Id start with just two for the next couple days. Im not one of those people that can eat salads multiple days in a row. I think because I am so limited on what I can put in them it can get pretty repetitive.

And not to mention, its quite adorable as well.

I didnt include dressing in the bottom of mine since I have the luxury of keeping a giant bottle of my favorite dressing (Newman’s Own Balsamic) in the fridge at work.

  • Ever done the salads in a jar?
  • What was the last Pinterest inspired project or recipe you attempted? (Feel free to include a link!)
  • Favorite “discount store?” Ross, Marshall’s, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx….etc.
Mine is Kohl’s simply because it is the least chaotic and most organized/department storish still. I do like Ross & Marshalls but since I dont actually enjoy shopping I get really impatient and have a hard time digging through stuff and pushing people out of the way and such.

  1. I keep pinning them on Pinterest as well but haven’t done them yet. Salad dressing is dangerous for me to keep in the house. I have found some other cool things on there that I have used (meatball bubbles).

  2. I love how dramatic dogs get about food. Our dog used to let us know it was an hour before dinner, half an hour, and dinner time. He was our furry clock. It’s so weird that they know exactly what time they get fed.

  3. I’ve seen these on Pinterest and always wanted to try them but never had enough initiative to do it. Can you just make me one and send it over? Thanks 😉 lol

  8. Love this! And I was totally going to make a Cobb salad for lunch tomorrow too. Maybe I’ll do it in a jar! I always struggle to get my salad evenly dressed in my work tupperwares, but this could be just the solution! Add dressing and shake, shake, shake!
