Martinsville

This weekend, we headed up to Virginia for a little racing action.

Torrance and his dad are both pretty into racing – of any kind, and this was actually my first official Nascar race.

Luckily, Martinsville is only about an hour and 15 minutes from us – so we went up Saturday to watch the truck series (thus the empty side-stands, since the truck races aren’t as popular).

Torrance actually has a few of the race shops as clients so it was kind of cool to root for people he actually knows and deals with weekly.

It turned out to be a blast, and what I decided I love about Nascar races (besides the drama – drivers getting in fights, crashing, etc) as opposed to a lot of other sporting events? You can bring your own damn food and drinks in. Genius.

So yeah, we brought our own little cooler and got kind of wasty.

It was, however, a little chilly – but we were prepared and layered up. It was about 45 or so and windy. Luckily we had drinks to warm us up!

  • What type of sporting events do you like to go to?
  • Are you starting to get some wintry weather where you live?
It was definitely chilly this weekend (it got down to 28 degrees one night!), but we are supposed to get warm again this week – in the 70s!

  1. I had no idea the drivers get in fights! For some reason I think that’s kind of funny.

We got a big dump of snow yesterday. Luckily it should all be melted for Halloween.

    • Daaang! it is wild how many people are getting lots of snow already!
and yes! it seems like more fights have been happening lately (they break them up pretty quick), i think because younger more hot-headed guys are driving haha!

  2. Baseball games are, hands down, my favorite sporting events. Last summer, I toured the Daytona 500 track and have wanted to go to a Nascar race ever since.

  3. I have never been to Nascar but my family goes to the Indy 500 every year 🙂 I’m a big fan of bringing your own food and drinks too! More events need to be like this- I think they’d make up for it in ticket sales!!

  5. I hate sports, but Jamie is Obsessed with them. Actually, when we started dating he told me NASCAR was only on sunday’s every other week… Which quickly escalated to every week including nationwide, truck, practice and qualifying. KILL ME. Anyways, this has caused me to know wayyyy more things about the drivers and NASCAR in general. RANT OVER. Side note, Martinsville is Jamie’s favourite track (so yes. he was jealous of you). He is a huge Jimmie Johnson Fan, anyway, 2 years ago for Christmas I found on EBAY (love EBAY!!!!!) the right rear quarter panel from Jimmie’s car from the Martinsville race where Jimmie won the year that Ricky Hendrick Died. It was NASCAR verified and blah blah blah. Best dust collector I purchased.

    • that is still so nice of you to get that for him! haha Torrance is mostly only into motor sports and X games type stuff. Probably because he never played regular sports but rather was into snow machines, dirt bikes, cars, BMX, snowboarding, etc – which I havent really determined if it is any better or worse, haha
